Travelers Insurance Workplace Injuries 2025 Report Takeaways

Monday, September 15, 2025

This Traveler’s Insurance Workplace Injuries Report summarizes over 2.6 million workers’ compensation claims from 2015-2024.

There was a decrease in injuries from 1.4 million (2015-2019) to 1.2 million (2020-2024). Even though there was a decrease in injuries, the average recovery time went up to 80+ days, adding an extra 7+ days more than the pre-COVID period. These trends are more prevalent in restaurants, construction sites and retail stores.

The most common causes of large losses from claims for employers are slips/falls, overexertion, being struck by an object, motor vehicle accidents, and being caught in or between machinery or material. These types of incidents tend to result in severe injuries, extended recovery times, and significant workers’ compensation costs. What makes these incidents particularly costly isn’t just the medical bills, but also the indirect costs: lost productivity, temporary staffing needs, retraining, and the potential impact on team morale.
